Before my website was accidentally erased this time last year, I had a regular feature where I highlighted products, foods, music, books, websites, and blog entries that I love. I’m bringing it back!
I love CB I Hate Perfume. I used to search for my one “signature scent,” but now I’m more more attracted to the idea of treating scents like accessories which change according to season, mood, and outfit. The CB I Hate Perfume is perfect in that regard, because each scent is like a bottled memory.

four phials of CB I Hate Perfume
Currently, I own (and adore): “In the Library,” “November,” “Mr Hulot’s Holiday,” and “In the Summer Kitchen,” but I hope to add: “At the Beach 1966″ and “Winter 1972″ soon. And “Burning Leaves.” OH OH and “The Fir Tree.” Okay, let’s be honest, all of them.
I love baking bread. The few times that I attempted bread-baking were the old standard “knead for a hundred years and cross your fingers” recipes and the results were more or less disasters, or at least not up to my standards, so I gave up the whole pursuit.

oat bread from "Kneadlessly Simple"
A month or so ago, I belatedly jumped on the no knead breadwagon and checked out Nacy Baggett’s “Kneadlessly Simple” from the library. I’ve made around a dozen loaves of bread since and they were all perfect. Tearing off a hunk of freshly-baked bread and eating it with Earth Balance is one of the most satisfying culinary experiences I’ve ever had, and as hobbies go, this one is as cheap as they come: each loaf costs around $1!
I love making my own cosmetics.

ingredients for face oil and deodorant
I started making my own face oil a year and a half ago and my complexion has improved drastically. Recently, I have been using the face oil as a base to make my own deodorant, too, since all deodorants eventually make me break out, including the hippie ones. I use coconut oil, tea tree oil, and lavender to make my face oil, and then add baking soda and arrowroot powder to thicken it up to use as deodorant, but you might want to play around with recipes.
Finally, I love balloons. Friend to parents and nannies worldwide.

OCM sounds interesting – nothing else seems to work for me.
As for the deodorant, I use any even easier method – just take a pinch of baking soda, add a few drops of water, and slap it on the pits. I’m not a big sweater, but it would be noticeable if I didn’t use anything. This lasts for a day for me.
So for the no knead bread recipes, can you sub soy milk powder? I am guessing that is the only sub you need to make them vegan. (well EB for butter but that’s just a given).
Joanna! Thank you so much for posting about this. I have been getting more and more frustrated with my skin breaking out, unable to reconcile it with being not 16, but 30?!! Anyway, I’ve never heard of this method but have already started to do searches online. I know how long you’ve struggled with the same thing and I really appreciate you sharing your solution. I’m going to try this out. One question: what made you go with tea tree oil rather than castor oil? Also, congrats for figuring out something that works!
i haven’t used any recipes which call for milk, but yes, that’s what i would do.
