There are 230 copies of my vegan cookbook, Yellow Rose Recipes, sitting in my basement, with no plans for reprint. I have made inquiries with several like-minded publishers, but have been turned down. Publishing isn’t exactly a cash cow these days, and publishers aren’t interested in shelling out the money to print a book if the author isn’t planning to write any more, since the (very small amount of) money is in the hype and interest of new releases. I understand that and sympathize with their decisions, but what that means is:
When they’re gone, they’re gone! I have a Google alert for the phrase “Yellow Rose Recipes,” and it regularly alerts me to forum threads and blog comments where people say: “I’ve been meaning to buy Yellow Rose Recipes, but…” If that’s you, thank you! I genuinely appreciate your interest in my cookbook! But you should probably buy a copy now, as in right now, because I don’t expect to have any left by Christmas or your birthday, and I won’t be selling from my personal stockpile no matter how many emails I get.

Remember when my cookbook and my firstborn came out the same week?
Okay, enough pressure! Onto some nice quotes about my book:
There are a lot of fancy cookbooks out there that are more fun to look at, or show off to guests, than to cook from. Yellow Rose Recipes, while fun to look at, will be one of those covered-in-food-dog-eared-pages editions to your collection. — Isa Chandra Moskowitz, from the forward to Yellow Rose Recipes
Hearty vegan recipes, really well-written and with beautiful photographs. I expect this one to be creased and battered within the year. Vegan-battered, of course. — Meghan Deans
Amazing book. The most gorgeously designed cookbook I’ve ever seen, and the recipes just all seem to make sense. Totally achievable awesomeness. No random ingredients that you’ve never heard of. Everyone I show it to says they want a copy of their own! So I will be buying more copies I guess. — Kevin Fanning
My picky omnivore husband eats second helpings of everything I make from this book. — Amber Karnes
I have purchased just about every vegan cookbook Amazon carries over the past 2 years searching for some kind of healthy vegetarian/vegan cookbook that I like more than a couple of the recipes. I have to say that the Yellow Rose Recipes cookbook is going to be my favorite. — Amazon reviewer
[T]his is a beautiful, user-friendly, tasty cookbook that is destined to get splashed with food on my counter due to excessive use! — Amazon reviewer
[Yellow Rose Recipes is] the one I always come back to and I use more of the recipes from it than most of my other vegan cookbooks. — Amazon reviewer
[Yellow Rose Recipes] recipes are easy, delicious, and the whole book is friendly – kind of like the vegan Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. — poster on a thread about best cookbooks to buy new vegetarians, and possibly my favorite thing that has ever been said about my book
That’s just about as much self-promotion as I can stand to do before I start to feel smarmy, but I was afraid that if I didn’t put the information out there, I’d spend the next five years saying: “Really. No Joke. No copies left. Seriously.”
Thank you for all of your support. Three years after its release, I still get emails weekly from people praising the cookbook, and those emails mean so much to me, because I know what it means to take time out of your day to reach out to and thank a stranger, so thank you right back!

I love YRR, I pull it out all the time and like Isa said my copy is all food stained and I’ve written in it and you can definitely tell it’s loved!
I was sad when I read here that you weren’t planning on writing another book, but I’ve bought the zines and I’ve got the book so I will keep cooking your recipes!
The macaroni cheese recipe is both my son’s favourite, lord knows how many times I’ve made it so far and how many more times I will make it in the future!
Hi Joanna… After lusting over this cookbook for years, I finally bought a copy at Herbivore while visiting Portland last week. We’re looking forward to using it! My boyfriend and I love your Autumn Vegetables and Tofu Roast. We take it to every potluck we go to and it is always a hit! Thank you! :)
I had to snatch that up for someone’s christmas! Thanks for letting us know; it’s so sad that no one is going to pick this great book up for a re-print.
So sad to hear there won’t be a reprint but thanks for letting everyone know. The book was on my “buy someday” list but I snagged a copy this afternoon.
it’s so crazy how much Milo’s face is totally his face now! i can see his almost-3 year old self!
oh! i totally forgot to make that yummy lemon strawberry cake (on the cover) this past strawberry season!
Well, no wonder I couldn’t find it! I am another wandering soul falling into the camp of “been meaning to buy it…”, so I did! Thanks for the heads up, Joanna. And you never know, since publishers are fickle maybe one will decide someday that YRR is due for re-release…
Hi Joanna!
I have a SIGNED copy of YRR! It’s funny that you posted this because I made kasha varnishkes tonight (with mushrooms, asparagus and rainbow chard). It’s my go-to meal when I have no money and wilting vegetables filched from work. I also have a batch of your Mom’s lentil soup in the freezer for the times when I need a food hug.

Oh man! It’s my favorite cookbook. Mine is all beat up and food covered and I was thinking about replacing it. I guess I had better get on that, eh?
